Kaspersky Lab detects web-borne threats in Q2 2013 "Security Bulletin"
Kaspersky Lab has announced the results of its second quarter report "Kaspersky Security Bulletin, April-June 2013" to check website threats, local threats, malicious and spam evolution during the second quarter of 2013. The statistics in this report are based on completely anonymous data obtained from Kaspersky Lab products installed on users’ computers in India and were acquired with the full consent of the users involved.
Regarding malware evolution, in the period of April-June 2013, Kaspersky Lab products detected 19,938,954 Internet-borne malware incidents on the computers of Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) participants in India. Overall, 35.6% of users were attacked by web-borne threats during this quarter. India stood at 15th place worldwide in connection with the dangers associated with surfing the web.
The share of malicious incidents caused by malware hosted in India was 0.10%, that is 543,946 incidents in the period April-June 2013. This puts India in the 39th place worldwide.
A separate Kaspersky Lab's service identifies spam messages in the global e-mail traffic and tracks their spam source. The share of spam sent via computers and servers based in India was 2.52% in April–June 2013.
Kaspersky Lab suggests that protection against such attacks not only requires an antivirus solution capable of treating infected objects but also a firewall, anti-rootkit functionality and control over removable devices.
