Present Landscape of Indian Handset Market
With the robust growth in Smartphone shipment, India is now entitled as the second largest telecommunication market. The mobile handsets and the smartphone segment witnessed a growth of 6 per cent and 15 per cent year on year in Q1, 2017.
As per the report by IDC India, on the shipment market the Chinese vendors performing quite better than its Indian counterparts. It says, the Chinese vendors have taken 51.4 percent compared to 13.5 percent of home-grown vendors in the Indian market.
The smartphone market in the rural region of nation is growing at a rapid pace and is expected to grow much faster in future. The upgradation of rural populace from feature phone to smartphone is must to acknowledge. As in rural and semi urban areas users demands phones with fine features at affordable prices.
The Data from IDC claims that a total of 34.4 million smartphones were sold in the first quarter of 2017 world wide. And with the government’s favourable regulatory policies, smartphone subscription in India is expected to increase fourfold to 810 million users by 2021. This means the overall smartphone penetration is likely to grow by four time over the next decade and the mobile services market revenue is expected to touch US$37 billion in 2017.
