Altera and AXISCADES to set up 10,000 sq ft defence-focused FPGA innovation lab in Bengaluru
2025-11-18
Altera Corporation, the world’s largest pure-play FPGA provider, has deepened its partnership with Bengaluru-based AXISCADES Technologies to accelerate the development of mission-critical defense technologies for global markets. The companies will jointly build a 10,000 sq ft innovation lab in Bengaluru focused on designing and characterising advanced FPGA-based systems used in radar, UAVs, software-defined radios, secure communications and other high-performance defense platforms.
The new facility will act as a hub for co-innovation, bringing together Altera’s programmable logic technologies — including its flagship Agilex™ 9 Direct-RF FPGAs and SoCs — with AXISCADES’ engineering expertise in aerospace, defense and AI-driven embedded systems. Altera specialists in India will provide on-site technical support throughout design, prototyping and integration, allowing both companies to compress development timelines for customers in the Aerospace, Defense and Government (ADG) ecosystem.
The expansion marks a significant strengthening of both firms’ presence in India’s fast-growing defense technology sector, which is seeing heightened demand for indigenous and high-performance electronics. AXISCADES will gain deeper access to Altera’s advanced RF-class FPGA technologies and global customer networks, while Altera stands to broaden adoption of its Agilex 9 Direct-RF family — a product line capable of RF sampling speeds up to 64 Gsps, enabling ultra-low-latency, high-bandwidth signal processing for next-generation radar and electronic warfare systems.
The collaboration builds on earlier work between the two companies, including the launch of a 3U-VPX SOSA-aligned COTS card powered by Agilex 9 Direct-RF devices. The board is positioned to redefine RF signal processing in military platforms, offering programmable flexibility with performance that traditionally required custom ASICs.
“This partnership represents a powerful convergence of Altera’s world-class FPGA technology and AXISCADES’ deep domain expertise,” said John Sotir, General Manager for Aerospace, Defense and Government Systems at Altera. “Together, we will accelerate the creation of next-generation products that meet demanding performance, power and efficiency requirements across the ADG sector and beyond.”
AXISCADES Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Sampath Ravinarayanan said the expanded partnership aligns with the company’s strategy to increase its share of high-value, technology-driven solutions worldwide. “We are excited to collaborate with Altera to strengthen our global footprint and deliver groundbreaking solutions in defense, AI and embedded systems,” he said.
With the new innovation lab, the companies aim to respond more quickly to regional defense requirements, especially as India ramps up its focus on domestic aerospace and military electronics capability. AXISCADES, along with its subsidiary Mistral Solutions, will integrate Agilex 9 Direct-RF devices into a pipeline of new mission-critical products for global customers.
