NIC is setting up its largest data center in Bhopal
A stringent data protection law is urgently needed in India to address the mounting concerns over privacy of citizens as the country is moving in a big way towards digital governance. There has been a growing concern in India over the safety of the Aadhaar database.
Concern around data has been continuously increasing. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union minister for electronics and IT said, that any attempt to influence elections ( the General election is due next year) by any “covert or overt” manner will not be acceptable. Talking about the scandal he said that the government took up the issue with Facebook and their CEO have apologised.
Prasad also acknowledged the importance of data protection in India and informed that the process of expansion of data centre is continuing in India. The National Informatics Center (NIC) is setting up its largest and fifth data center in Bhopal, with a capacity of 5 lakh virtual servers.
Minister further added, that the report on artificial intelligence by the committee has been submitted and it has recommended setting up of seven centers of excellence. While one specialising in fintech will come up in Chennai, one for medical will be set up in Lucknow, another for electronics in Bengaluru, and one for blockchain in Gurugram.
