Vijay Shekhar Sharma, CEO of Paytm, showcased the newly developed AI Soundbox to Union Minister Piyush Goyal, emphasizing the role of indigenous technology in empowering India’s small business sector
Paytm Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma recently presented the company's newly developed AI Soundbox to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, reinforcing the company's commitment to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The Made-in-India device is positioned as a significant step toward making artificial intelligence accessible to small and micro enterprises across the country.
Sharma, in a social media post, described it as a privilege to demonstrate the AI Soundbox, emphasizing that Paytm is building AI-driven tools to serve every small shopkeeper in India. He called the innovation a transformative leap in digital payment technology, designed to enhance the daily operations of small businesses.
AI Soundbox: More than just a payment device
Describing the evolution of the Soundbox, Sharma noted that what began as a simple payment notification tool has now evolved into a smart, AI-powered assistant. "If QR codes were like rotary phones, and the original Soundbox like early mobile phones, this new AI Soundbox is the smartphone of business devices,” he explained.
The AI Soundbox integrates payment alerts with intelligent business insights, leveraging Paytm’s deep data ecosystem. It acts as a virtual assistant, helping merchants track transactions, manage records, and potentially access financial services in the future.
Strengthening India’s fintech leadership
Paytm's latest launch highlights its ongoing push to lead innovation in the merchant payment space. According to market analysts, including a recent report by Emkay Global, Paytm holds a dominant position in the ecosystem with its broad reach, longstanding merchant relationships, and data-driven capabilities.
With the AI Soundbox, Paytm aims to strengthen its role as a homegrown fintech pioneer, bringing advanced yet accessible technology to the heart of India's small business economy.
