Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks surged significantly in Q2 2025, with a 44% year-on-year increase in attack frequency despite a quarter-on-quarter decline.
Over 7 million attacks were recorded, down from the previous quarter but still reflecting heightened threat intensity compared to the same period last year.
A major highlight was the largest DDoS attack ever documented—reaching 7.3 terabits per second and 4.8 billion packets per second—demonstrating the growing scale and sophistication of such threats.
Application-layer HTTP DDoS attacks continued to rise, increasing by 9% from the previous quarter and an alarming 129% from Q2 2024.
Meanwhile, network-layer attacks showed a sharp 81% quarter-on-quarter drop, indicating a strategic pivot in attacker tactics.
China emerged as the top target for DDoS activity, followed by Brazil and Germany.
Russia and Vietnam also moved dramatically up the list of most targeted countries.
On the origin side, Indonesia led as the largest source of attacks, ahead of Singapore and Hong Kong.
Telecommunications, service providers, and IT sectors remained primary targets, while the agriculture industry saw an unexpected surge in attacks, jumping 38 positions to become the eighth most targeted sector.
These developments underscore the escalating risks to global internet infrastructure.
