New video model brings audio integration, creative control, and longer formats to content creators
Google has unveiled Veo 3.1, the latest upgrade to its generative video platform, marking a significant leap in AI-powered video creation. Now available through the Gemini API, Vertex AI, and the Flow creative suite, the new version delivers faster performance and greater cinematic realism than its predecessor.
This update is aimed at filmmakers, developers, and content creators seeking more storytelling control and visual consistency—areas where earlier models fell short.
Key features expand creative possibilities
Among the most notable additions is native audio generation. For the first time, Veo can produce dialogue, ambient sounds, and sound effects that sync naturally with the visuals, creating a more immersive video experience. Whether it’s city noise or background tension, audio now responds dynamically to the scene.
Another standout feature is "Ingredients to Video," which allows users to upload up to three reference images to guide generation. This helps maintain visual consistency for characters or styles across scenes—ideal for advertising, animation, or continuity-focused storytelling.
Veo 3.1 also supports first-and-last-frame generation, allowing users to define a clip's opening and closing visuals. The AI fills in the movement between them, enabling smooth transitions that enhance narrative flow.
Paving the way for longer, editable AI video
To support long-form content, Veo now includes a scene extension tool that continues a clip’s motion and style beyond its original endpoint. This allows creators to link shorter videos into longer sequences without jarring cuts.
Additionally, Google's Flow tool has been updated with more advanced editing capabilities. Users can insert or remove objects from a scene while preserving natural lighting and motion—bringing professional-level video editing into the AI domain.
With Veo 3.1, Google is not just showcasing AI’s creative power, but redefining how videos are conceived, directed, and edited.
