HCLTech plans to expand local hiring across key international markets to reduce dependence on H-1B visa holders, according to CEO C. Vijayakumar. The move aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to strengthen its global workforce and address evolving immigration and talent challenges in major markets like the U.S. and Europe.
Vijayakumar said that HCLTech has steadily increased local recruitment over the past few years, with a growing proportion of employees now based in client geographies. “Our focus is on building a diverse, locally anchored talent pool that enhances client proximity and operational agility,” he noted.
The company’s effort comes amid renewed scrutiny of visa programs and tightening work authorization rules. By investing in local talent, HCLTech aims to ensure business continuity and reduce exposure to regulatory uncertainties affecting international mobility.
The Indian IT major, which employs over 225,000 people globally, continues to invest in training and upskilling initiatives to equip its workforce for next-generation technologies, including cloud, AI, and cybersecurity.
Industry analysts view this shift as part of a broader trend among Indian IT companies adopting a “glocal” strategy—balancing global delivery with local execution—to remain competitive and resilient in an evolving geopolitical landscape.
