HID has announced the acquisition of Canadian startup IDmelon, aiming to unify physical and digital identity authentication through passwordless FIDO technology. The move supports HID’s goal to converge building access and digital login systems, especially for frontline workers.
Based in Vancouver and founded in 2020 by former Vancosys CTO Bahram Piri, IDmelon specializes in turning any existing badge or device into a FIDO authenticator—without the need for reissuance or user interaction. This unique capability aligns with growing enterprise demand for seamless identity solutions that support zero trust architectures.
“This acquisition accelerates HID’s vision of unified credentialing,” said Rich Gibson, HID’s director of strategic alliances. “IDmelon allows organizations to modernize authentication without disrupting infrastructure.”
IDmelon’s orchestration platform enables IT teams to silently push FIDO passkeys onto existing badges. When users tap their badge, the credential activates automatically—no downloads, apps, or setup required. This is especially valuable for frontline workers operating in low-tech or shared environments outside centralized IT.
By avoiding the high cost and disruption of issuing new credentials, HID offers customers a scalable, phishing-resistantso
With FIDO seen as the gold standard for passwordless security, the IDmelon acquisition positions HID to address both identity assurance and operational efficiency across industries.
