Indians faced over 10 million internet-borne cyberthreats during AMJ quarter: Kaspersky reports
2024-09-28According to the data released from the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN), Indian computer users have faced over 10 million internet-borne cyber threats and more than 14 million local incidents on their computers during the second quarter of 2024 (April to June).
This information was published by the global security firm Kaspersky in their quarterly report, highlighting the persistent and rising threat landscape in India.
The report revealed that over 19% of users in the country were attacked by web-based threats, with the same percentage vulnerable to local incidents. These figures were derived from Kaspersky security solutions, which scan files on hard drives the moment they are created or accessed, as well as removable storage media.
The figures reveal that Indian users are highly vulnerable to a range of online threats, such as malware, phishing attacks, and ransomware, with millions of incidents being detected both from internet-based sources and locally on users' machines. The rise in these threats reflects the increasing digital footprint and reliance on the internet in the country, as well as the growing sophistication of cyberattacks targeting Indian users.
This data underscores the need for better cybersecurity awareness, practices, and solutions among Indian internet users to safeguard against such threats. Kaspersky continues to recommend the use of up-to-date security software, practicing cyber hygiene, and staying vigilant to potential cyberattacks.
