Malware attacks 2,60,000 SOHO routers and IP cameras via a Chinese botnet

A gigantic Chinese botnet known as "Raptor Train" that infected over 2,60,000 networking devices with the intention of targeting critical infrastructure in the US and other nations has been taken down by the FBI and cybersecurity researchers.

This botnet specifically targeted military, government, higher education, telecommunications, defense industrial base (DIB), and IT sectors, with a primary focus on the U.S. and Taiwan.

The FBI and cybersecurity researchers have successfully disrupted a sophisticated Chinese botnet known as "Raptor Train," which had infiltrated over 260,000 networking devices to target critical infrastructure in the United States and other nations.

The botnet was weaponized to target entities within the military, government, higher education, telecommunications, defense industrial base (DIB), and IT sectors, primarily in the United States and Taiwan.

Over a four-year period, Raptor Train evolved into a complex, multi-layered network equipped with an enterprise-grade control system capable of managing tens of servers and a substantial number of compromised SOHO and consumer devices, including routers and modems, NVRs and DVRs, IP cameras, and network-attached storage (NAS) servers.
