Midjourney Unveils AI Video Tool to Animate Images with Prompts

 

 

 

Midjourney has officially debuted its AI-powered video generation tool, a major step forward for creators looking to animate images with text-based prompts. The new Midjourney AI video tool allows users to turn static images—either created within the platform or uploaded—into short animated clips using simple descriptive text.

Currently available via Midjourney’s web interface and Discord server, this AI image animation software starts by producing five-second video clips, which can be extended in four-second increments up to a maximum of 21 seconds. The tool offers two animation modes—high motion and low motion—giving users flexibility in how the subject or virtual camera is animated.

Once an image is ready, users can click the “Animate” button and choose to either let the system auto-generate motion or customize animations using text prompts. This text to video generator supports user-defined starting images and movement instructions, enhancing creative possibilities for storytellers, marketers, digital artists, and content creators.

 

The Midjourney video generation tool operates on a paid subscription model, where pricing is determined by GPU time usage. Subscriptions begin at $10/month, offering 3.3 hours of GPU time—enough for roughly 200 image generations. In terms of cost, one second of video is estimated to require the GPU equivalent of generating a single image, making videos about eight times more resource-intensive.

This release places Midjourney in the expanding frontier of AI-powered animation tools, competing with platforms like Runway and Pika. With its unique artistic style and prompt-based creativity, Midjourney is now giving creators the power to bring their still visuals to life, all through the intuitive fusion of AI and imagination.
