How is Nokia looking at the dual-sim market?
For Nokia, dual-SIM market is important like any other market. Thus, we ensure that whatever we introduce for our consumers is a good innovation and significantly enhances their experience on using our Nokia devices. Mobile phone is a device where consumers want choice, as per their individual aspirations. So, firstly, we worked on the form factors of our dual-SIM range. The next important thing was to bring in innovation that redefined the usage pattern of dual-SIM. The phones had "Easy Swap" option that lets users change SIM cards without having to turn off the phone or remove the battery. Also, when the SIM cards are changed every time you have to re-do the settings, but our Nokia phones come with the memory of keeping safe the settings of up to five SIM cards. This saves so much time of the customer and the moment you insert in the SIM your phone is up and running at just one or two clicks. All these innovations that aimed to simplify the usage made us the leaders in the dual-SIM category.
Since you were late entrant, what USP your dual-sim handsets offered?
All these innovations strengthened our consumers' experience. To put it simply, the features in terms of hardware complemented by the services like Nokia Live offered makes the Nokia offering the most preferred.
Tell us about the new Asha models launched?
Globally, Nokia has announced that one big strategic priority for us is to Connect next 1 billion through the Internet. Considering the dynamic youths and the demographics of India, this holds a lot of potential. Last year, we also found that Internet for the first time has emerged and became part of the top five reasons for buying a mobile phone. This proves the potential and provides opportunities, which means a lot for a vendor like us. Our Asha range actually meets the demands of our customers. Now, we have added two more new models- Asha 305 and Asha 311. Both are full touch devices- Asha 305 is dual-SIM and 311 is single SIM. Besides the innovative touch UI, these phones come with the bouquet of services ranging from Nokia Music, Nokia Maps, Nokia Social, and 1,000 of apps that can be downloaded, depending upon customers' preferences. It features Nokia browser 2.0, which is three times faster and compresses data by almost 85%. So, it not only speeds up the data transferring, but saves cost too.
Does the Nokia music store service incur cost to the customer? Or is it available for free?
Yes, the service comes free for consumers for the first three months post which there are options available to renew the service. They can renew at Rs.50 for a week or Rs.100 for a month or Rs.250 for three months.
What is the classification of phones Nokia is having as of now?
More than Nokia classifying the phones, we let our consumers classify and we work according to their preferences. There are smartphones and there are feature phones. The Asha range upwards are all smartphones because they offer everything that high-end consumers get to the Asha consumer. As regards feature phones which are the basic devices, we (Nokia) have always tried to give our consumers technology benefits. They also have access to experiences like Nokia Live for example which gives them extremely critical information via SMS. So, it is not just about devices, but it is about the experience we offer to our consumers. So, one can say that, at present, Nokia is coming with either the smartphones or the feature phones based upon the customers' or market requirements.
