Lisa Monaco, who joined Microsoft in July, previously served as National Security Adviser under Obama and Deputy Attorney General under Biden, and now leads the company’s global government relations and policy strategies, according to her LinkedIn profile
U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called for the dismissal of Lisa Monaco, Microsoft’s Global Affairs President, citing national security concerns due to her previous roles in Democratic administrations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Monaco’s position at Microsoft, arguing that her access to sensitive government-related information through the company’s federal contracts posed a threat. “She is a menace to U.S. National Security,” Trump wrote. “It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco.”
Background in public service raises concerns for Trump
Monaco, who joined Microsoft in July, previously held senior roles under former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. She served as a national security adviser under Obama and most recently as Deputy Attorney General during the Biden administration. According to her LinkedIn profile, Monaco now oversees Microsoft’s global government relations and policy strategies.
Trump’s concerns stem from Monaco’s past involvement in coordinating the Justice Department’s response to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots — a topic still politically sensitive. He also claimed that her security clearances were revoked earlier this year and that she had been barred from entering federal properties, although official confirmation of the latter was not immediately available.
Microsoft and Monaco yet to respond
As of Friday (September 26), neither Microsoft nor Monaco had issued a response to Trump’s statements. The tech giant has not publicly commented on the allegations or Monaco’s role within the company.
Despite tensions in the past between Trump and the tech industry, Microsoft has made recent efforts to rebuild relations. CEO Satya Nadella attended a White House dinner hosted by Trump earlier this year, part of broader outreach efforts by tech leaders during Trump’s second term.
