Unauthorized Access to PAN, Aadhaar Data Raises Alarm

The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) is leading an investigation into companies that have been illegally accessing personal information through PAN enrichment services. These services, which utilize the Income Tax Department's backend systems, have allowed unauthorized access to sensitive data such as names, addresses, and phone numbers.

The Union Home Ministry has ordered an immediate halt to these practices, which involve companies using Permanent Account Number (PAN) data to access sensitive personal information, including names, addresses, and phone numbers, without proper authorization.
