'Browse with Bing' is disabled in ChatGPT amidst legal difficulties
OpenAI has announced that it is temporarily turning off the ‘Browse with Bing’ feature due to content-related concerns. Subscribers to ChatGPT Plus had access to this function, which allowed the chatbot to conduct a Bing search for recent data to broaden its understanding. This action comes in the wake of a slew of recent lawsuits filed against OpenAI that contested copyright and privacy regulations.
“We have learned that the ChatGPT Browse beta can occasionally display content in ways we don’t want. For example, if a user specifically asks for a URL’s full text, it might inadvertently fulfill this request,” the company said in a post.
“As of July 3, 2023, we’ve disabled the Browse with Bing beta feature out of an abundance of caution while we fix this in order to do right by content owners.”
The company also said that it is continuously working to bring back the beta feature as quickly as possible. Microsoft, in May this year, announced the integration of Bing Search into OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It was integrated to deliver more relevant and potentially new responses.
It said that Bing would serve as the “default search experience,” and would be available to free users soon by simply enabling a plugin which brings Bing to ChatGPT.
