Bank of Baroda Probes Alleged Data Leak
Bank of Baroda is facing allegations of a major data leak after the ransomware group TripleX claimed to have exposed nearly 1TB (1,000GB) of customer and internal banking data on the dark web.
The claims appeared on the threat monitoring platform Ransomware.live on July 24.
The hackers allege the leaked data includes 100,000–300,000 account-opening application forms, customer photographs, Aadhaar details, savings and current account information, loan records, NetBanking credentials, and NRI and corporate banking documents.
However, Bank of Baroda has not confirmed any data breach, and no government agency or cybersecurity authority has independently verified the authenticity of the claims.
The alleged exposure therefore remains unconfirmed.
Cybersecurity experts caution that ransomware groups sometimes exaggerate or publicize unverified claims to pressure organizations.
Independent forensic investigation is essential before drawing conclusions.
Meanwhile, customers should remain vigilant by monitoring bank accounts, enabling multi-factor authentication, avoiding phishing attempts, and never sharing passwords, PINs, or OTPs.
If confirmed, the incident could have significant implications for data privacy, cybersecurity, and trust in India's banking sector.
