Cyber fraud targeting actor Gajendra Chauhan foiled, police recover nearly ₹1 lakh

Veteran television actor Gajendra Chauhan narrowly escaped financial loss after falling victim to an online scam, with prompt action by Mumbai Police ensuring the frozen amount was traced and credited back to his bank account.

Actor Gajendra Chauhan, widely recognised for his role as Yudhishthira in the iconic television series Mahabharat, was recently targeted in a cyber fraud attempt that resulted in nearly ₹1 lakh being withdrawn from his bank account. Swift intervention by the Mumbai Police, however, ensured that the defrauded amount was successfully recovered.

According to officials at the Oshiwara police station, the incident occurred after Chauhan came across a sponsored advertisement on social media offering dry fruits at heavily discounted prices. Believing it to be a genuine offer, the actor clicked on the link and proceeded to place an order. During the process, he received a one-time password on his mobile phone, which he entered to confirm the transaction.

Moments later, Chauhan received an alert stating that ₹98,000 had been debited from his account, far exceeding the value of the intended purchase. Realising he had fallen victim to a cyber scam, the actor immediately approached the Oshiwara police station and lodged a complaint.

Swift police action prevents loss

Police officials said they quickly examined Chauhan’s bank records and identified the account to which the money had been transferred. The cyber team promptly coordinated with the nodal officers of the concerned banks and managed to freeze the transaction before the funds could be withdrawn further.

Following the freeze, the entire amount was traced and credited back to the actor’s account. Chauhan later visited the police station to personally thank the officers for their prompt and effective response.
