Digi Yatra has expanded its digital identity platform by introducing Driving Licence as a verified identity credential on its app. With this update, it allows passengers to use either their Aadhaar or Driving Licence for identity verification while travelling through participating airports. The Driving Licence is securely accessed through DigiLocker, giving users another option for seamless and contactless passenger processing.
While existing Digi Yatra users can add their Driving Licence as an additional verified identity credential in the Digi Yatra Wallet, new users signing up for the service can choose either Aadhaar or Driving Licence during the enrolment process. Passengers who have both credentials linked to their wallet can select either document as their primary identity credential, which is matched with the boarding pass during airport verification.
According to Digi Yatra Foundation, the Driving Licence is securely fetched through DigiLocker only after obtaining the user's consent. The identity credential remains encrypted and is stored exclusively on the passenger's device. The platform follows a decentralized identity model, ensuring that user data is shared only when permission is granted.
According to Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, the addition of Driving Licence is aimed at making digital air travel more inclusive, convenient and accessible. He added that the platform is designed to support multiple trusted government-issued identity credentials while ensuring users retain complete control over their personal information.
