A former Facebook employee has made serious claims about Sheryl Sandberg, the company’s former Chief Operating Officer (COO). In a new book, Sarah Wynn-Williams says Sandberg acted inappropriately with employees during her time at Facebook.
According to the book Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism, Sandberg once took a long road trip across Europe. During the trip, she and her 26-year-old assistant, “Sadie,” reportedly stroked each other’s hair and took turns sleeping in each other’s laps. Sandberg also told “Sadie” to buy lingerie for both of them without worrying about the cost. The total bill came to $13,000 (over ₹11 lakh), as reported by The New York Times.
Wynn-Williams also claims that during a private flight, Sandberg—dressed in pajamas—asked her to join her in the only bed on the plane. When she refused, Sandberg allegedly became annoyed.
These claims have shocked many, as Sandberg was seen as a powerful and respected leader in the tech industry.

In response to these allegations, Facebook has shared that eight years ago, Sarah Wynn-Williams was fired for poor performance and toxic behavior, and an investigation at the time determined she made misleading and unfounded allegations of harassment. “Since then, she has been paid by anti-Facebook activists and this is simply a continuation of that work,” the spokesperson said, adding: “Whistleblower status protects communications to the government, not disgruntled activists trying to sell books.”
