The acquisition underscores Flipkart’s push to embed generative AI into its core platform, as visual, video-led and conversational technologies reshape online shopping discovery, engagement, and conversion across India’s fast-evolving e-commerce market.
Flipkart has acquired a majority stake in Minivet AI, a Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence startup founded in 2024, marking a strategic move to deepen its generative AI capabilities. The acquisition reflects Flipkart’s focus on preparing its platform for a shift toward visual, conversational, and AI-driven product discovery in e-commerce.
With online retail increasingly moving beyond text-based listings, Flipkart aims to build a more immersive and intuitive shopping experience. The company believes integrating Minivet AI’s technology will help transform how customers explore products, interact with listings, and make purchase decisions across its marketplace. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
Transforming product discovery with video and AI
Minivet AI specialises in generative video solutions for e-commerce, enabling platforms to convert static product catalogues into rich video content at scale. Its technology leverages advanced model orchestration and performance optimisation to deliver high-quality outputs at significantly lower production costs.
Beyond video creation, the startup offers a broader suite of AI-driven tools, including capabilities for conversational search and semantic understanding. This positions Minivet AI as a full-stack AI partner for online retail platforms looking to adopt generative AI across discovery, engagement, and conversion journeys.
Aditya Rachakonda, founder of Minivet AI, said the partnership would accelerate the deployment of the company’s proprietary solutions across Flipkart’s ecosystem, helping make shopping more intuitive and interactive for millions of users.
Strengthening Flipkart’s long-term tech strategy
Flipkart said the acquisition will bolster its long-term technology roadmap by integrating specialised talent and proprietary AI platforms into its core operations. According to Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President – Corporate at Flipkart, capabilities such as catalogue videofication and semantic search are becoming essential as e-commerce moves toward visual-first and video-first formats.
The company expects the integration to drive higher customer engagement and conversion rates, while also laying the foundation for broader innovation across the Flipkart Group. As competition intensifies in India’s digital commerce space, the move signals Flipkart’s intent to stay at the forefront of AI-led retail transformation.
