Video game adaptations are rapidly becoming one of entertainment’s fastest-growing pipelines, with new commissions rising by an average of 30% annually since 2019, according to a research.
Between 2019 and 2025, studios and streaming platforms greenlit 272 game-based titles, with activity peaking in 2024 as competition for premium IP intensified.
The market has shifted decisively towards live-action formats, driven by the success of series and films such as The Last of Us, Fallout, and A Minecraft Movie.
In 2025, live-action accounted for 69% of new commissions, more than double the share seen a year earlier, reflecting growing confidence in big-budget, cinematic storytelling.
Major players including Warner Bros., Netflix, Amazon, Paramount, and Comcast have already locked in rights to leading franchises, tailoring projects to theatrical or episodic strategies.
Yet Ampere highlights untapped opportunity.
High-profile game IPs such as Baldur’s Gate III, Black Myth: Wu Kong, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Sons of the Forest remain unclaimed—offering studios a strong pipeline for the next transmedia breakout.
