Hughes Systique Corporation (HSC) is leveraging Veeam Backup and Replication solution to drive full visibility in backup and virtual environment to enable data availability and reduce business risk. With this implementation, HSC has seen significant improvement in performance and efficiency across resources with Veeam
The software development and consulting company needed to respond faster to keep pace with business demands. As its legacy system posed challenge with slow backup and recovery coupled with limited monitoring, planning and visibility in the virtual environment. This slowed down IT team’s ability to stay agile and exposed business risk.
“Our legacy system suffered from slow backup and recovery. For instance, one of our engineers spent 100 per cent of his time verifying backup jobs are completed successfully every weekend,” said Bhupinder Singh, IT Director, HSC. “We weren’t responding fast enough and this has led to missing project deadlines, thereby impacting team morale and reputation.”
With a global employee base of 550 engaged in building applications for Fortune 100 companies, HSC’s 130 VMware vSphere virtual machines (VMs) at its Infrastructure and Development Centre (IDC) required improved availability to reduce expensive downtime. Additionally, the company also wanted achieve real-time performance monitoring into virtual environment and alerts on potential business issues. With an aim to optimize resource utilization effectively, the company also wanted capacity planning to gauge whether the resources were utilized optimally.
"Before we deployed Veeam, we spent approximately $50,000 every six months on more resources for our virtual environment, such as hosts and backup storage,” said Bhupinder Singh
Post one year with Veeam solution, HSC has not deployed any additional resources and saved $100,000 and received 25-per cent host and backup capacity.
Veeam backup and replication has been instrumental in enabling 130 VM backups to HP EVA storage and provided high-speed recovery to restore VMs, files and individual items in minutes. HSC has achieved recovery time objective (RTO) decreased by 88 per cent and the recovery point objective (RPO) decreased by 50 per cent.
Ashok Acharya, Regional Director, India and SAARC, said, “By enabling HSC to drastically improve response time and mitigate risk, Veeam has proven capabilities to deliver recovery time and point objectives (RTPO) of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data that keep organizations business running 24.7.365.”
