According to findings by Norton, 7 in 10 Indians use their mobile devices to access the Internet, with over 68% people saying that they “can’t live” without their mobiles devices. Intact, about 43% people voted that they would save their phone from fire if given an option to save only two things. 1 in 3 do not use passwords to protect their data on the smartphone with about 23% people who choose not to have a mobile security software on their smartphones highlights the importance for users to be savvy about what they share online.
The proliferation of these mobile threats will only mean that consumers should not underestimate security risks. Recommendations by Norton for consumers to stay safe from unwanted mobile fraud include having strong passwords. Users are recommended to protect their mobile devices with unique and strong passwords to prevent valuable information from being stolen; PIN numbers, passwords or very private information (personal financial statements, photos and videos) should not be saved on their mobile devices; always check alerts and suspicious notifications from unknown sources via emails, text messages and applications.
It is also suggested to download mobile applications from trustworthy websites such as the official marketplace or app stores and users should carefully read the terms and conditions before giving any personal information via app usage.
