Oracle Academy and the ICT Society (ICTS) of Karnataka have recently announced a three- year collaboration to incorporate the Oracle Academy curriculum into the institution’s academic program. Through this relationship, the Government of Karnataka will provide relevant industry skills and upgrade skill sets of the existing as well as future workforce in the state. The initiative is aimed at increasing the productivity and employability of the state’s working population, both in the organized and unorganized sectors.
Working with the ICTS, Oracle Academy is set to facilitate a “train-the-trainer” course to ramp up skillsets of 120 faculty representatives in over 60 colleges, over a period of three years. As part of this collaboration, these colleges will be able to leverage the resources of Oracle Academy in areas such as Java Foundation, Java Fundamentals, Java Programming, Database Foundation, Database Design and Programming, amongst many others.
Commenting on the relationship, Damian Haas, JAPAC Regional Director, Oracle Academy, said, “Karnataka is an emerging hub for education and technology. We are delighted to work with the ICT Society of the State to meet the snowballing global demand for highly skilled, industry-ready professionals. With this collaboration, Oracle remains committed to creating a future-ready workforce and thereby addresses the skills gap challenge.”
Commenting on the same, Shri Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for ITBT & Tourism, Government of Karnataka, said, “Our single, most crucial aim is to equip the youth of Karnataka with the essential skills and internationally recognized qualifications that can ensure their employability. Oracle Academy offers a wide range of courses, self-study instructions, workshops and resources that can prepare students to meet the increasing demands of the IT industry. We are excited to work with Oracle Academy to design a specialized curriculum that will help us achieve our objective of creating a globally competitive workforce in a dynamic world economy.”
Oracle Academy is Oracle’s flagship philanthropic education program aimed at advancing computer science education globally. In the past fiscal year, Oracle Academy supported over 3.5 million students in 120 countries across 12,000 institutions through an in-kind grant value of $3.75 billion. In India, Oracle Academy currently teams with more than 1,700 educational institutions.
