Oracle has announced a partnership with the West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (WEBEL) to train 15,000 students and professionals in West Bengal by 2029. The initiative aims to build a future-ready digital workforce by offering free training in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data science.
Under the collaboration, Oracle University will provide the curriculum and certification pathways, ensuring that the training aligns with global industry standards. The program is part of the state government’s efforts to modernise its workforce and improve employability in technology-driven sectors.
Focus on Future-Ready Skills
According to Babul Supriyo, Minister-in-Charge of the Department of IT and Electronics for West Bengal, the government intends to empower the next generation of technologists through research, development, and consulting opportunities. “This initiative will help nurture talent that can contribute to the state’s digital growth,” he said.
Shailender Kumar, Senior Vice President at Oracle India, added that combining Oracle’s global curriculum with WEBEL’s local reach provides a clear pathway for youth to acquire in-demand skills. The program is designed to create a talent pool capable of supporting India’s growing digital infrastructure while strengthening West Bengal’s position as a regional technology hub.
Program Structure and Curriculum
The training will be delivered through Oracle My Learn, a digital education platform used worldwide. Each participant will receive over 200 hours of training across three years, covering key areas such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), OCI Generative AI, OCI Data Science, Oracle APEX, and OCI Security. Participants who complete the program will earn professional-level certifications recognised by global employers.
The initiative is free for eligible students and professionals in West Bengal, reflecting Oracle’s commitment to expanding digital skills at a regional level. Oracle University has already trained over 3.1 million certified professionals worldwide, and this collaboration brings that expertise to a local context.
By providing foundational training in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity, the program supports the state’s ambition to foster a decentralised technology ecosystem. As organisations increasingly adopt localised cloud infrastructure and Private AI solutions, the initiative aims to equip the workforce with the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively manage modern digital systems.
