Polaris Wireless has completed field trials with a Tier I Indian wireless operator's 3G network to prove compliance with India's Department Of Telecommunications (DoT) May 2011 mandate for location-based services. The trials were conducted in the Kolkata metropolitan area to demonstrate the effectiveness of Polaris Wireless Location Signatures (Polaris WLS) in urban 3G networks. The company announced in April that it had exceeded the DoT mandate in trials held in suburban and rural environments and remote areas in North-East region for a 2G network. Previous trials in Bangalore also exceeded the DoT requirements in urban and indoor environments, but this is the first such trial in a 3G network environment in India. Polaris WLSTM is based on the 3GPP standardized RF Pattern Matching (RFPM) approach.
Srinivas Varadarajan, VP- Sales &Business Development, Asia, Polaris Wireless said, "We are very pleased with the performance of Polaris WLSTM in a 3G network environment. Polaris Wireless offers the most accurate location solution for public safety and commercial location applications. We look forward to working with Indian wireless network operators to deploy our best-in-class location solution."
