Samsung OMNIA HD
2010-02-17Now that is a big one – the handset with one of the longest spec sheets we have ever seen has just dropped on us like a bomb. The Omnia HD is Samsung's go at touch-taming the Symbian S60 and is introducing truly revolutionary stuff. Samsung Omnia HD, or i8910 HD, is larger and heavier than most other smartphones, which is not a flaw in any way. Omnia HD is a very compact and rugged device with metal frame that contains usual buttons (photo and video recording, volume rocker-control, lock button, etc.) and three usual buttons on the front side.
When it comes to touch screen devices, it is very important that screen functions perfectly and in case of Omnia HD it functions more than satisfactory. There is even feedback in the form of short vibration that simulates click. Touch screen is very impressive, scratch resistant, with nicely saturated colours and, above all, large diagonal: 3.7 inch in 16:9 ratio. Because of these properties, watching movies on Omnia HD is a very pleasant experience. The picture will automatically rotate as you rotate device, except in case when you are watching a wide screen movie, thanks to present accelerometer. The reason why Samsung put an HD suffix to this smartphone name is the ability to record video in HD 720p resolution. Device itself cannot reproduce HD video since the resolution of the screen is “only” 640x360, but it does not mean that videos recoded with this phone or movies do not look astonishing when played on Samsung Omnia HD. Samsung also provided Omnia HD with great photo camera of 8MP (3264x2448) that has autofocus, LED flash, picture stabilization, face detection, smile detection, blinking detection and a few more integrated technologies.
If you are under the impression that Samsung Omnia HD is simply another great multimedia smarthphone on the market, let us assure you that it is much more than that. The fact is that Samsung Omnia HD offers great picture and sound experience, but it also packs a lot of other smartphone functions: Internet browser, e-mail client, Office Suite, GPS, PDF reader, and one of the very useful applications for all business users: Smart Reader that can scan (photograph) visiting cards and store data in contacts. OCR routine functions are very good, especially in nicely lighted conditions. Besides all this, there is support for 3G and WiFi.
