Silicon Labs, Wirepas cross 10 million IoT chip milestone, fuelling industrial connectivity
2025-06-04
The two companies, through their longstanding partnership, have developed robust, scalable, and secure IoT networks, with their latest milestone proving the solution’s technical reliability and large-scale readiness for critical global infrastructure deployment
Silicon Labs, a leader in low-power wireless technology, and Wirepas, a global pioneer in decentralized IoT connectivity, have announced the shipment of 10 million wireless SoCs running Wirepas’ RF mesh software, primarily in India using Silicon Labs’ sub-GHz FG23 SoC. These chips support some of the world’s largest and most demanding industrial mesh networks across sectors like smart electricity metering, emergency lighting, industrial monitoring, and building automation.
The two companies share a longstanding partnership focused on delivering robust, ultra-resilient, and highly scalable IoT networks tailored to the security, reliability, and scale requirements of industrial applications. This milestone highlights that their joint solution is not only technically reliable but also proven in large-scale deployments, ready to underpin the digital infrastructure of critical global industries.
In December 2024, Silicon Labs and Wirepas reported the deployment of four million smart electric meters in India using Wirepas Mesh software on the sub-GHz FG13 and FG23 platforms, supporting India’s Advanced Metering Initiative. This solution offers reliable, cost-effective connectivity in dense, complex environments, playing a key role in the country’s grid modernization and electrification efforts.
Another major achievement is in Norway, where over one million smart meters form one of the world’s largest decentralized mesh networks. These deployments demonstrate that self-healing mesh connectivity can effectively support national infrastructure, paving the way for smarter, more efficient, and sustainable urban and industrial ecosystems.
Beyond metering, other sectors like emergency lighting are also seeing rapid adoption of this technology, reflecting its growing impact across diverse industrial applications.
“Our partnership with Wirepas is built on a shared vision: to enable industrial-grade wireless connectivity at scale,” said Ross Sabolcik, Senior Vice President of Product Lines at Silicon Labs. “By combining Silicon Labs’ energy-efficient wireless platforms with Wirepas’ decentralized mesh stack, we help our customers build massive, secure, and resilient IoT networks faster and more cost-effectively. We’re excited to continue driving transformation across industries together.”
“This 10-million milestone demonstrates the unmatched scalability and resilience of our joint solution,” said Teppo Hemiä, CEO of Wirepas. “With Silicon Labs’ hardware and our mesh software, we’ve enabled massive networks that simply work, even in the most challenging conditions. Our partnership is helping industries solve real problems at the infrastructure level, accelerating the digitalization and electrification of society.”See What’s Next in Tech With the Fast Forward Newsletter
