Sumona Chakravarti, known for her role as Kapil Sharma’s on-screen wife in The Kapil Sharma Show, has addressed allegations of misogyny in the comedy series and clarified rumors about her absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix India. It is time to FaceOff the fact if there is any rift among Sumona and Kapil.
In an interview with SCREEN, Sumona emphasized that the show is entirely scripted, urging viewers to differentiate between fiction and reality. She recalled being questioned by friends about participating in a show accused of promoting misogyny. Defending the content, she explained, “It’s acting.
The characters of Bittu and Manju are fictional and reflect certain societal dynamics, but it’s all part of the script.” She also highlighted the importance of common sense in distinguishing reel life from real life.
Regarding her absence from Kapil’s latest Netflix show, Sumona clarified there was no fallout between them. She noted that their professional association spanned a decade across different networks, joking that their on-screen marriage lasted longer than many real ones.
She further explained that after their last season on Sony TV ended in 2023, Kapil embarked on his US tour, and she later learned about his Netflix deal. However, there was no direct conversation between them about her exclusion.
Sumona reiterated that while they share a successful working history, they are not close outside of work. Despite her absence, she remains appreciative of their time together and the impact of the show on audiences.
