The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded satellite-based internet provider Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd to enable seamless Aadhaar-based customer verification. The move marks a significant step in integrating India’s trusted digital identity system with global satellite technology.
Under this collaboration, Starlink has been appointed as a Sub-Authentication User Agency (Sub-AUA) and Sub-eKYC User Agency (Sub-eKYC UA). Aadhaar authentication will facilitate smooth, secure, and paperless onboarding of customers, ensuring compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. Importantly, authentication will remain voluntary, in line with existing regulations.
The official onboarding took place in the presence of UIDAI CEO Sri. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Deputy Director General Sri. Manish Bhardwaj, and Sri. Parnil Urdhwareshe, Director, Starlink India.
This partnership highlights Aadhaar’s growing role as the foundation of India’s digital public infrastructure. With its robust e-KYC and face authentication capabilities, Aadhaar continues to simplify service delivery while enhancing transparency and accountability.
Experts note that while the collaboration enables Starlink to scale across geographies and deliver high-speed internet to households, businesses, and institutions, the challenge of authentication will remain an ongoing consideration.
The integration underscores the scalability and reliability of Aadhaar in powering next-generation digital services and fostering innovation in connectivity.
