
Bhuvnesh Kumar has taken over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). An IAS officer from the 1995 Uttar Pradesh cadre, he will also continue to serve as Additional Secretary in MeitY, handling critical responsibilities, including cyber laws and matters related to UIDAI. Kumar takes over from Amit Agrawal, who recently took charge as the pharma secretary.
Bhuvnesh Kumar graduated as a gold medalist from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra. He began his administrative service in December 1993 and has held pivotal positions both in Uttar Pradesh and in the Central Government. His previous roles in Uttar Pradesh included Assistant Magistrate and Assistant Collector, Mahoba (1996); Joint Magistrate, Meerut (1997); District Magistrate, Hamirpur (2001) and Kaushambi (2002); Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries; Secretary of Finance, MSME, and Technical Education and Divisional Commissioner, Land Revenue.
In his Central Government role, Bhuvnesh Kumar served as Joint Secretary, MeitY, overseeing technology initiatives and governance.
Under Kumar’s leadership, UIDAI will focus on strengthening Aadhaar-based services, enhancing data security and user accessibility and expanding Aadhaar’s integration across government and private sectors.
