Zscaler, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZS), a global leader in cloud security, has acquired SquareX to extend its Zero Trust capabilities directly into standard web browsers for the AI era. The move enables organizations to secure users on any browser—such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge—through lightweight extensions, eliminating the need for third-party enterprise browsers or full agents.
The acquisition addresses growing security gaps created by unmanaged and BYOD devices, where enterprises have traditionally relied on vulnerable VPNs or costly Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Zscaler had earlier disrupted this space with Zscaler Private Access™ (ZPA™), accelerating the industry’s shift from legacy VPNs to true Zero Trust architectures.
By integrating SquareX, Zscaler will now deliver the same enterprise-grade Zero Trust protection to unmanaged devices, securing access to SaaS and private applications while maintaining user productivity. This approach allows organizations to enforce precise, risk-based security controls without compromising flexibility.
“Legacy VPNs and VDIs are fundamentally insecure,” said Jay Chaudhry, CEO, Chairman, and Founder of Zscaler. “With SquareX, we are extending Zero Trust Exchange™ protections into standard browsers, reinforcing Zscaler’s position as the platform of choice for modern enterprise security.”
Vivek Ramachandran, founder of SquareX, added that the integration will help enterprises replace outdated access tools with browser-native Zero Trust policies that protect data and AI interactions across any device.
The acquisition was completed on February 5, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
