Addressing industry leaders at IMC 2025, Prime Minister Modi praised India’s rapid digital transformation, highlighting the indigenous 4G stack milestone and 5G expansion as key achievements driven by youth, startups, and a strong innovation ecosystem
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, reaffirming India’s ambition to lead the world in digital innovation and connectivity. Touted as Asia’s largest digital technology event, IMC 2025 is jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts, the Prime Minister noted the rapid transformation of India’s digital landscape. “IMC has grown beyond just mobile and telecom. It has emerged as Asia’s foremost platform for showcasing digital technology,” he said, attributing this success to India's youth, startups, and a supportive innovation ecosystem.
‘Make in India’ milestone and 5G expansion
Prime Minister Modi highlighted a major achievement in India's telecom journey — the successful development of the indigenous 4G stack, placing India among a select group of five nations with such capabilities. He called it a “significant step” toward technological self-reliance and digital sovereignty.
Reflecting on the evolution of India’s telecom sector, he remarked, “When I first spoke about ‘Make in India,’ it was met with skepticism. But today, the country that once struggled with 2G has 5G connectivity in nearly every district.” He also praised the speed at which new technologies are being adopted, noting India’s shift from technology consumer to technology contributor on the global stage.
Spotlight on emerging technologies
Held under the theme “Innovate to Transform,” IMC 2025 will run from October 8 to 11, featuring advancements across 5G, 6G, AI, quantum communications, semiconductors, optical networks, and cybersecurity. The event serves as a convergence point for global technology leaders, innovators, and policymakers to shape the future of digital infrastructure.
Over the course of the four-day event, IMC will showcase more than 1,600 use cases, underlining India’s commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and innovation-led digital future.
With its growing global influence in telecom and digital innovation, India Mobile Congress 2025 marks a pivotal chapter in the country’s journey toward becoming a global tech powerhouse.
