The BSNL eSIM service, powered by Tata Communications’ GSMA-certified Move platform via TCCSPL, supports nationwide scalability, aligning with BSNL’s 4G rollout and ₹37,000 crore investment in 97,500 indigenous mobile towers across India
In a move set to redefine mobile connectivity in India, Tata Communications has partnered with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to roll out pan-India eSIM services. This initiative is designed to offer users greater flexibility, security, and ease of access, as India pushes forward with its digital transformation agenda.
The service enables BSNL subscribers to activate their 2G, 3G, or 4G mobile connections remotely using a QR code—eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. This digital onboarding model aligns with global telecom trends, especially benefitting users of dual-SIM smartphones who can now enjoy BSNL connectivity alongside another carrier, particularly while travelling abroad.
The eSIM functionality is supported by Tata Communications’ GSMA-accredited Move platform, delivered through Tata Communications Collaboration Services Private Ltd. (TCCSPL). This robust infrastructure enables scalable provisioning, ensuring seamless service for millions of BSNL users across urban and rural regions.
Driving India’s digital independence
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Robert Ravi described the collaboration as a milestone in India’s telecom journey. “This partnership strengthens our ability to offer modern, secure, and flexible mobile services to citizens nationwide,” he said, underlining the importance of digital inclusion.
The eSIM rollout aligns with BSNL’s broader efforts to modernize its infrastructure and expand reach. In August 2025, BSNL launched its 4G services in Delhi, and earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the operator’s fully indigenous 4G network from Odisha. More than 97,500 mobile towers developed using domestic technology have been commissioned, with investments nearing ₹37,000 crore.
Additionally, BSNL partnered with India Post to distribute SIM cards and offer recharge services via 1.65 lakh post offices, deepening its rural presence.
Modernising connectivity, one SIM at a time
Initially piloted in Tamil Nadu, the eSIM service is now being scaled across India. It marks a major step for BSNL in competing with private players by offering cloud-based mobile activation, better roaming capabilities, and enhanced customer experience.
As demand grows for smarter, faster telecom services, this move positions BSNL to meet the evolving needs of India’s mobile-first population.
