Thousands of users of Reliance Jio were in for a shock when they faced network connectivity issues in the last couple of hours in India. The technical glitch, however, was limited to Mumbai only, and didn’t have its effect in other parts of the country.
According to the Downdetector, a website that keeps track of real-time service disruptions worldwide, over 10,000 people were affected by the Jio network issue, which was first reported at 12:15PM.
The platform reported that about 65 per cent of users experienced no signal issues, whereas about 20 per cent had issues with mobile internet. Nearly 16 per cent of Jio users reported that they were having issues with JioFiber, the company’s broadband service.
A few people on X also reported issues with the MyJio app, saying that it was not loading for them. The country’s largest telecom operator, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, later came up with its clarification that the issue was confined to Mumbai only and has been resolved.
"This morning, some Jio customers in Mumbai faced problems in availing seamless services on account of minor technical issues. The same has been resolved, and seamless services of Jio have been fully restored. We regret the inconvenience to our subscribers," a Reliance Jio spokesperson was quoted as saying in some news reports.
Meanwhile, the news agency Reuters, quoting sources, said that a fire at a Reliance Jio data centre led to a nationwide network outage. "The fire has been contained, and the servers are expected to resume operations shortly," said Reuters quoting sources.
Interestingly, the social media flooded with memes, as internet users couldn’t hold their calm and turned to X to share memes around the network issues, as always.
