Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp, has officially launched a real-time message translation feature on the world’s most popular messaging app, aimed at making cross-language communication easier for its 3 billion global users. The feature is initially rolling out in six languages on Android devices and 19 languages on iPhones, with plans to expand support for more languages in the coming months.
To use the feature, WhatsApp users can simply long-press a message and tap “Translate” to instantly view the text in another language. The translation option works across personal chats, group conversations, and WhatsApp Channels, making it easier to connect with friends, communities, and businesses worldwide.
Meta has emphasized that user privacy remains a top priority. All translations are processed on the device using Meta’s AI system, which means WhatsApp itself cannot access or read the messages being translated. For Android users, there’s an added convenience—automatic translation for entire chat threads. Once enabled, future messages in that conversation will be translated by default, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted communication.
This update marks another major step in WhatsApp’s evolution into a multilingual communication platform, enhancing global connectivity for individuals, businesses, and communities. With real-time AI translations, Meta is tapping into growing demand for language accessibility, AI-powered features, and seamless global messaging experiences.
