Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has announced the creation of a dedicated AI and Services Transformation Unit to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy and accelerate digital transformation initiatives for global clients. The unit will be headed by Amit Kapur, a TCS veteran who currently leads the UK and Ireland business, and will take charge as Chief AI and Services Transformation Officer from September 1, 2025, reporting directly to Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director, President & COO of TCS.
The move highlights TCS’s renewed focus on enterprise AI adoption, automation, and AI-powered integrated services at scale. With the rapid growth of generative AI, machine learning, and automation technologies, TCS aims to consolidate its fragmented AI initiatives into a unified structure that can deliver stronger business outcomes and enhanced client engagement.
The new AI unit will integrate TCS’s AI & Data capabilities, first carved out during the Q4FY25 restructuring, and align them with horizontal service units and industry business groups. This consolidation is designed to reimagine client engagement models, strengthen AI-driven domain solutions, and build a stronger partnership ecosystem with AI-native and cloud partners.
“We will reimagine our investments in TCS Pace Ports worldwide to bring real-world AI experiences closer to customers and accelerate innovation,” said Subramanian in an internal email.
Industry experts note that this step marks a strategic shift for TCS, which had been relatively cautious compared to aggressive competitors like Accenture and Cognizant, both of whom have rapidly expanded their AI offerings. According to Peter Bendor-Samuel, Founder of Everest Group, this restructuring shows TCS is now “seriously investing in AI transformation and ensuring it does not lag behind in the rapidly evolving IT services and digital economy landscape.”
The decision also reflects broader market trends in AI and cloud computing, with businesses demanding specialized AI-focused services rather than bundled cloud-led approaches. TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan explained that separating AI & Data from Cloud services allows the company to dedicate resources more efficiently and address distinct skill requirements in both segments.
With AI adoption in enterprises accelerating worldwide, TCS’s move to create a specialized AI and services transformation unit positions it as a strong player in delivering AI-powered automation, engineering modernization, and digital business solutions to clients across industries.
