WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging app, is rolling out a new beta feature that allows users to leave voicemail-style voice messages after a missed call. Spotted by WABetaInfo in the latest Android beta version, this feature is designed to make communication smoother and faster, especially when urgent responses are required.
When a recipient does not answer a WhatsApp call, a new “Record voice message” button appears on the call screen alongside the existing “Call again” and “Cancel” options. This lets callers instantly send a WhatsApp voice message without switching back to the chat window.
Unlike standard WhatsApp voice notes, this voicemail feature is triggered specifically after missed calls, ensuring that the message appears directly in the chat thread next to the missed call notification. This makes it easier for recipients to notice and respond quickly.

This update highlights WhatsApp’s growing focus on enhancing its calling experience. With millions of users depending on WhatsApp calls for personal and business communication, the ability to leave quick voice follow-ups can save time and improve convenience.
Currently, the WhatsApp voicemail feature is only available to select Android beta testers. There is no confirmed timeline for its release on iOS or for a global rollout.
Recently, WhatsApp also began testing a reminders tool to help users return missed calls, indicating that the platform is placing a fresh emphasis on improving WhatsApp calling features alongside its already popular text-based messaging. With these updates, WhatsApp continues to strengthen its position as the go-to app for seamless communication worldwide.
