Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer said that India is advancing in technological development equally with other advancing countries in the world. India is in third position in terms of the number of PhDs awarded in science and engineering, he added.
Presiding over the ninth convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Kakinada (JNTU – Kakinada), he said, "India ranks third in terms of number of PhDs awarded in Science and Engineering, which is nearly 25,000, after the USA and China…the country also ranks third globally in terms of the number of startups which are 77,000 and 107 unicorns."
India has become an important investment destination for technology transactions across the world. The gross expenditure on R&D (GERD) in the country increased by three times in the past 10 years. It ranked ninth in terms of the number of resident patents filed, said the Governor in a press note shared by the Raj Bhavan.
