The Union budget 2023 is likely to announce 12 more airports to be privatised in the Budget 2023 for asset monetization. The airports include Raipur, Jabalpur, Vijayawada, Kolkata, Indore etc. The aviation ministry has been tasked to generate Rs 20,000 crore through asset monetisation.
It has also set an ambitious target to invest around Rs 9800 crore over a period of the next 4-5 years to enhance the aviation infrastructure. Through airport privatisation, the ministry aims to generate more than Rs 8000 crore.
A major chunk for the aviation infrastructure will come from airport privatisation and this is the reason that in the upcoming Union Budget, an announcement will be made that will attract private investment in the aviation sector.
Another key area of thrust for the aviation ministry is drones. For this, the PLI scheme announced for drones and drone components earlier with a budgetary outlay of Rs 120 crore will be expanded. This PLI scheme could be raised to Rs 200-250 crore, giving a major fillip to startups in this thriving sector. Additionally, another set of funds will be allocated to the UDAN scheme – the scheme that aims to connect smaller cities to the national network by air.
