Amazon Prime Video is rolling out a new feature, X-Ray Recaps, designed to enhance the streaming experience by helping viewers quickly catch up on TV shows without the hassle of rewinding or risking spoilers. Powered by generative AI, X-Ray Recaps provides personalized, concise summaries of entire seasons, individual episodes, or specific scenes, allowing viewers to pick up right where they left off.
This feature is aimed at solving a common problem for streaming audiences: forgetting key plot points or losing track after a long wait between seasons. Whether you're a few minutes into an episode or several episodes behind, X-Ray Recaps offers short textual summaries of important moments, such as cliffhangers, character developments, and pivotal plot points, all tailored to the exact spot you're watching.
"With X-Ray Recaps, we’re solving a pain point for customers: the challenge of remembering where they left off in their favorite shows," said Adam Gray, Vice President of Product at Prime Video. "By offering context-aware summaries, Prime Video is helping customers quickly dive back into their shows or rediscover what they loved about them."
Building upon Prime Video’s existing X-Ray features—which already provide trivia, cast details, and soundtrack information—X-Ray Recaps enhances the viewing experience by offering easy-to-access, spoiler-free recaps that won’t interrupt the flow of your binge-watching session. The feature is powered by Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, combining advanced AI models to analyze video segments and subtitles for accurate summaries.
Currently in beta, X-Ray Recaps is available to Fire TV customers in the U.S. starting November 4, with plans to expand to additional devices by the end of the year. At launch, it will support all Amazon MGM Studios Originals, including Daisy Jones and the Six, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
With X-Ray Recaps, Prime Video aims to further elevate the streaming experience, giving viewers a quick and easy way to stay connected with their favourite shows without the inconvenience of rewatching or encountering spoilers.
