The XR headset aims to strengthen Samsung’s position in immersive technologies, marking a major leap in foldable and extended reality innovations.
Samsung has officially confirmed the launch of two highly anticipated products — its first tri-fold smartphone and the much-rumored Project Moohan XR headset — both set to debut by the end of 2025. This announcement came during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call, highlighting Samsung’s ambition to lead the market in foldable smartphones and extended reality (XR) technologies.

The tri-fold smartphone, likely branded as the Galaxy Z Trifold or Galaxy G Fold, is expected to launch within the next five months, possibly around October 2025. Reports suggest a unique “Z-shaped” folding mechanism, allowing both sides to fold inward, creating a compact yet versatile form factor. This design echoes the Huawei Mate XT released last year but with Samsung’s signature refinements.
A leaked tutorial video from a One UI 8 beta build supports earlier CES 2022 prototypes, showcasing a triple-folding screen with three panels and an external cover display. The device is also expected to house a triple-camera setup on the rear, asymmetrical hinges for a cleaner fold, a titanium frame for durability, and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chipset customized for Galaxy devices.
Project Moohan: Samsung’s XR Leap
Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset will also launch this year, marking a bold step into the mixed reality space. It will run on Google’s Android XR OS and feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor. The headset will boast Sony’s 1.3-inch OLEDoS displays with 4K resolution and 3,800ppi, delivering full-colour pass-through video, making it a strong competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro.
Google Play Store support ensures compatibility with existing Android apps, while Samsung and Google are collaborating on native XR experiences like an immersive YouTube app and 3D Google Photos. Google Gemini AI will power voice and gesture controls, with physical controllers available for precision input.
Samsung also plans to launch the Galaxy S25 FE and Tab S11 series later this year, potentially alongside another Galaxy Unpacked event. With these innovations, Samsung is positioning itself at the forefront of next-gen smartphones and XR technology, aiming to challenge rivals like Apple and Huawei in both segments.
