Uttar Pradesh police have dismantled a major Aadhaar identity fraud ring, arresting four individuals for manipulating biometric data of over 1,500 cardholders across 12 states. The gang, operating from Badaun and Amroha, exploited vulnerabilities in the UIDAI system.
The accused, including a BTech dropout, allegedly used fake websites mimicking official Aadhaar and Passport portals to alter personal details like names, addresses, and birthdates. They charged ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 per alteration, utilizing a network of 200-300 agents across states including UP, MP, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi.
The gang bypassed UIDAI's security by cloning genuine Aadhaar operator credentials and using modified fingerprint scanners that accepted silicone molds. They also forged birth and ration cards to support their fraudulent Aadhaar updates.Following stricter verification rules, they generated fake passports, some of which were successfully uploaded to the UIDAI database.
Police have recovered around 400 fake documents and are continuing their investigation to identify additional network members and the full scope of the fraud.
