Ajit Mohan quits as Facebook India’s Head
2022-11-04Social media company Meta announced that its India head Ajit Mohan, has stepped down to join rival social media platform Snap. Ajit Mohan joined Facebook India as the Managing Director in early 2019. Prior to Meta, he served as the CEO of Hotstar for four years. He will be joining Snapchat’s parent Snap next year as President for Asia Pacific Region.
Nicola Mendelsohn, Vice President of Global Business Group at Meta, said, “Over the last four years, Ajit has played an important role in shaping and scaling our India operations so they can serve many millions of Indian businesses, partners and people. We remain deeply committed to India and have a strong leadership team in place to carry on all our work and partnerships. We are grateful for Ajit’s leadership and contribution and wish him the very best for the future.”
Ajit Mohan will report to Snap’s Chief Operating Officer Jerry Hunter. The regional sales teams, including that of India and China, will report to him. In his LinkedIn post, Ajit Mohan said, “After almost 4 years leading Meta (Facebook) in India, I am stepping down from my role. When I took on this role, my objective was to build a team and a company that would be a valuable ally to India and play a useful role in fuelling its economic and social transformation. This is exactly what we have managed to do in the last four years. Am also excited to share that I am going to lead the Asia Pacific region for Snap and be a part of the company's executive team. Can’t wait to get started.”
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said, “I’m happy to share that Ajit Mohan will join Snap as our new President, APAC, joining us in February. Ajit comes from Meta where he most recently served as VP & Managing Director of India, and previously held executive roles across the region, including as founding CEO of Disney’s Hotstar.”
