2021-09-27
Amazon has paid, crores of rupees in bribery in exchange for favourable government policies on it’s favour. RSS-linked weekly magazine 'Panchjanya' has termed Amazon 'East India Company 2.0' and said, "Whatever the East India Company did in the 18th century to capture India, the same is visible in the activities of Amazon.
The report states that Amazon is taking measures to take over the economic, political and personal freedom of Indians so that it can establish its monopoly in the Indian market. It also added that Amazon’s video portal, Prime Video, has been distributing films and television programs that are anti-Indian culture.
There have been reports that the US e-commerce giant is investigating alleged bribes paid by its legal representatives in India and it spent a staggering Rs 8,546 crore or USD 1.2 billion in legal expenses for maintaining a presence in the country during 2018-20.
The report further claims that Amazon has set up a slew of proxy organisations and there are accusations that it has disbursed crores as bribes for favourable policies. An expert says, giving bribe and getting policies done in favour of them, means the company is into high level of corruption and to get recognised as the most unethical company .
It also alleges that Amazon has established many proxy entities and "there are reports that it has distributed crores in bribes for policies in its favour". Amazon is locked in a legal tussle over the takeover of Future Group and is facing a probe by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Congress, the major opposition party, has asked that the alleged bribery case involving Amazon be investigated by the Supreme Court. Previously, the RSS-affiliated Swadeshi Jagaran Manch called for action against e-commerce companies like Amazon for breaking regulations that harm merchants and engaging in unethical business practices.
Sources said, Jeff Bezos once to employees, ‘One day, Amazon will fail’ but our job is to delay it as long as possible. Seems he would have visualised in advance, the expert added.
