CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, Asia’s largest Rated-4 datacenter operator, has officially launched GreenVolt 1, its captive solar farm aimed at advancing the company’s sustainability mission. With Phase 1 (62.5 MWp) operational since June 2024 and Phase 2 (another 62.5 MWp) under implementation, this 125 MWp solar farm is a significant step toward CtrlS’ goal of becoming completely carbon neutral by 2040.
With a vision to develop over 1GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, CtrlS is making major investments across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. GreenVolt 1 will power 60% of the CtrlS Mumbai Datacenter Campus, allowing enterprises hosted there to offset their carbon footprint and achieve their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while leveraging secure and sustainable digital transformation.
“GreenVolt 1 will power our existing and upcoming datacenters, setting a new benchmark for sustainability in the Indian datacenter industry,” said Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder & CEO, CtrlS Datacenters. “We are committed to scaling our datacenter capacity beyond 1GW, and GreenVolt 1 is a crucial milestone in ensuring we achieve this sustainably.”
As part of its $2 billion investment plan, CtrlS is actively expanding its renewable energy footprint, with solar projects across India. “GreenVolt 1 is just the beginning—we intend to scale our GreenVolt projects nationwide, bringing us closer to our ultimate vision of complete carbon neutrality by 2040,” Pinnapureddy added.
Spanning 340 acres in Nagpur, Maharashtra, GreenVolt 1 is strategically located along the Mumbai-Kolkata highway, ensuring seamless connectivity—a rare advantage for solar farms. Unlike conventional P-type solar panels, CtrlS has invested in advanced N-type panels, which generate more power, reduce land requirements, and enhance energy efficiency. Phase 1 alone features 107,912 solar panels, significantly reducing environmental impact while maximizing output.
CtrlS' ambitious 1GW solar capacity goal by 2030 will not only power 100% of its datacenters with green energy but also pave the way for AI-driven innovations with state-of-the-art sustainable technology solutions.
Expanding Horizons: CtrlS Goes Global
Beyond India, CtrlS is expanding its footprint internationally, with Thailand set to be its first overseas market as it ventures into Southeast Asia and the Middle East. With 15 datacenters across eight key markets, CtrlS continues to lead the way in integrating renewable energy with next-generation digital infrastructure.
With GreenVolt 1, CtrlS is redefining the future of datacenter sustainability, proving that cutting-edge technology and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
