The web app offers real-time info on accommodations, snan ghats, parking, traffic, weather, hospitals, police stations, e-rikshaws, lost and found centers, and crowd management points
Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions provider Esri India has launched a web app to enhance the navigation and experience for pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, taking place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26. Available in both Hindi and English, the GIS-based web app can be accessed at https://kumbhlocator.esri.in/.
The app provides crucial real-time information about the Mela, including details on accommodations, snan ghats, parking, roads with live traffic updates, weather forecasts, and key facilities such as hospitals, police stations, fire stations, e-rikshaw stands, and lost and found centres. It also includes important entry and exit points for smooth crowd management.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, spread across over 4,000 hectares along the riverbank, is expected to attract more than 40 crore visitors from around the world. On the first day alone, over 1.65 crore devotees gathered at the Sangam for the holy dip during Paush Purnima.
Through the app, users can easily locate various events, programs, and activities happening during the Mela. It also features ArcGIS Story Maps that highlight important temples and other tourist attractions in Prayagraj, helping visitors make the most of their experience at this spiritual event.
Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri India, shares, “With an intent to enhance the experience of lakhs of pilgrims at the Kumbh Mela, we have launched a webapp. Through this webapp, we aim to provide all the useful information at one place. It is available in Hindi and English and does not require any login or download. It aims to empower the pilgrims to easily navigate the Mela, access key locations, and stay updated about the facilities, ensuring safety and improving their overall journey."
GIS technology can greatly enhance the experience of worshippers at a pilgrimage by offering tools for better navigation, safety, and organization. It allows pilgrims to easily navigate large and crowded sites with interactive, real-time maps, guiding them to important locations like ghats, lost & found centres, police stations, fire stations, restrooms, etc. Through the Kumbh Mela Webapp, Esri India aims to provide all the vital information to the pilgrims at a single location, allowing them to focus on their spiritual journey with peace of mind.
