Europol is giving over a hundred free decryption tools to assist release hostage files from cyber criminals in order to protect organisations and individuals from the ever-increasing menace of Ransomware.
The No More Ransom portal currently offers 136 free tools for 165 ransomware variants, including Gandcrab, REvil/Sodinokibi, Maze/Egregor/Sekhmet, and others. No More Ransom provides keys for unlocking encrypted files as well as tips for avoiding infection in the first place.
Europol initiated the effort, which first included four tools for decrypting various varieties of ransomware and was only available in English. Over 188 governmental and private sector partners have joined the initiative, offering new decryption tools for the most recent strains of dangerous malware on a regular basis.
To date, the scheme has assisted over 1.5 million customers in successfully decrypting their devices without the requirement for payment to the crooks. The platform is available in 37 languages, to further aid victims of ransomware around the world.
Users are advised to follow the following safety tips:
· Back up the electronic devices’ data on a regular basis.
· Keep an eye on clicks, where the link will take you
· Never open attachments from unknown senders, even if they appear important and legitimate.
· Make sure the security software and operating system are current.
· Protect user accounts with two-factor authentication (2FA).
· Restrict the ability to export huge amounts of company data to third-party file exchange platforms.
· Do not pay the ransom. Report the crime and look for decryption tools at No More Ransom.
