The first day of the IPL 2023 witnessed Reliance-owned Jio Cinema receiving criticism on social media platforms for numerous complaints of the app’s slow buffering and crashing. Jio Cinema has obtained the digital streaming rights for the cash-rich league. The app malfunctioned during the opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, leaving numerous viewers disappointed as they were unable to watch the game without encountering any technical issues.
Notably, it is the first time two companies are broadcasting the IPL matches on separate platforms in India and other regions. While the TV rights have been acquired by Disney Star, and they are telecasting the games on the Star Sports network, Viacom18 has acquired the digital rights, and they are streaming the matches for free on their OTT platform Jio Cinema.
Jio Cinema responded to users on Twitter and offered their apology for the inconvenience that fans experienced. Jio said, “We apologize for this problem. We don’t want you to have this kind of experience. To help us resolve this matter, please send us a direct message with your OS, app version, and mobile number. Thank you for your patience, and we hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”
The Twitter account of Jio Cinema also advised some users to uninstall and reinstall the app.
